Images

I find myself observing the everyday mundane things around me more closely with this exercise in mind, then catch myself attaching all sorts of wordy descriptions and back-stories to them in real time. This feels both creatively productive and somewhat annoying. But I guess that's the point in this- that there are potential stories in everything around us. The challenge comes in effectively coralling and harnessing all the images into a fertile stream of consiousness?

1. Traffic cruising Eastbound on Mass pike of which I'm a part
2. Gray morning highway asphalt
3. Man in mid-sixties with bright orange shirt on treadmill
4. Friendly smile from Dunkin' Donuts cashier woman, middle eastern in 50's?.
5. The kitten's wide, almond eyes and tail hooked at the end.
6. The empty basement office.
7. The man who has clearly lost weight since I saw him last.
8. Architectural plans unfurled on white counter top.
9. The orchid shipped by mail, all but dead.
10. The "hair guy" impishly grinning in his 15 minutes of fame.

1. Tall mounds of frozen dirt
2. The concrete worker in hooded sweatshirt
3. Perpetually dirty, winter windshield
4. My new green work coat hanging on the wall rack with friends.
5. Jane's gorgeous smiling face
6. Millions and millions of pine needles on the path of the removed Christmas tree
7. Yellow afternoon sunlight spilling accross ancient pine floorboards
8. Michael's mocassin slippers parked next to the toilet
9. Water stains on the edges of aging white acoustic ceiling tiles
10. Client wearing spectacles and Red-Sox skull-cap describing his eye problem
